SPHiNX now offers complete disaster recovery capabilities for any size business.
Crossroads Systems this week announced the general availability of a new SPHiNX product suite that provides organizations with a holistic data protection solution from the desktop to the data center.
Unveiled at the COMMON 2010 Fall Conference and Expo in San Antonio, the new SPHiNX greatly expands its reach by offering its data protection capabilities for remote office, corporate and data center needs. Crossroads’ SPHiNX now allows organizations to centralize, simplify and consolidate data from desktops and offices to central data centers and disaster recovery sites–reducing expenses, improving efficiency and consolidating tape media usage and backup management.
Prior SPHiNX offerings supported IBM i, AIX and Microsoft. Today’s SPHiNX now serves as a complete disaster recovery solution for midrange servers, open systems, and desktop host environments–scaling easily to grow with any size business. As a primary repository for data center backups, SPHiNX can be used as secondary tiered storage for replicated data to meet disaster recovery requirements.
It offers flexible functionality either as a network attached storage (NAS) device, virtual tape drive, autoloader, or virtual tape library (VTL) to ensure rapid, reliable data recovery with reduced data loss and minimal downtime, the company said. SPHiNX offers an optional Data Replication Suite, Data Encryption Suite, FileStor-CDP, and FileStor-HSM Suites. SPHiNX provides:
- Tapeless backups—Flexible deployment as a VTL or NAS device for rapid data recovery
- Streamline backup and restore processes—improved performance, immediate access to stored data
- Seamless backup application integration—leverages existing assets, no software or agents to install
- Physical tape integration—archive, disaster recovery and capacity offload
- Built-in data reduction—capacity optimization and network utilization
- Extensible and scalable—growth, capacity and system connectivity
- Remote and branch office protection—offsite data protection, centralized consolidation
"As a Silver Sponsor of this year’s COMMON 2010 Fall Conference and Expo, Crossroads is extremely pleased to use this national venue to announce its latest generation of SPHiNX,” said Glenn Haley, senior product manager at Crossroads Systems. ”With SPHiNX’s new support, enhanced performance and replication features, greater capacity and scalability, Crossroads offers an unmatched solution that is easily installed and managed—all while protecting data from the desktop to the data center for complete peace of mind."
Haley and Jason O’Dell of GreenBank offered an in-depth education session to the media Tuesday covering how SPHiNX helped GreenBank securely back up offsite data allowing for faster restores and improved speed and operation of their IBM Power System. The presentation was geared toward IT managers, storage administrators and anyone responsible for managing and performing backup and recovery operations. The session covered:
- Identify typical issues and challenges faced with today’s backup environments
- Understanding what alternatives exist to improve backup and recovery strategies
- Learning the concepts and benefits of using a virtual tape appliance to improve recovery times and satisfy regulatory compliance requirements
- An IBM user on how they combined VTL and encryption to protect and secure offsite data within their banking environment.
