The new functions built into Centerfield's insure/INDEX tool are called Autonomic Database Assistant (AutoDBA) and provide expert DB2 advice and options to automatically implement that advice. The 6.0 release is focused on fully optimizing database indices (DDS logical files and SQL indices) in order to make SQL queries and RPG programs more efficient.
Why just drive when you can hit the cruise control?
"AutoDBA is Centerfield's platform to deliver best practices to IT personnel so they can optimize their database and fully leverage their information assets." Says Mark Holm, Centerfield's Chief Technology Officer. "AutoDBA gathers the data necessary to identify opportunities, graphically shows prioritized advice, and can implement changes," Holm says. He goes on to add, "We've seen great results from our beta customers. Many of them have literally been given thousands of suggestions on how to streamline their database and obtain top SQL performance without the need to modify applications. Based on that feedback, we are excited, and frankly surprised, about the potential for iSeries accounts to optimize key parts of their processing."
In addition to the groundbreaking AutoDBA feature, all other components within HomeRun 6.0 have been enhanced. For example:
- The ability to monitor just active jobs, OneWorld user names in the joblog, and improved scalability (insure/MONITOR)
- Supplemental groups can now be specified in policy definitions (insure/RESOURCES, insure/SECURITY, insure/MONITOR)
- PCI support added (insure/SECURITY)
- Integration with IBM's Visual Explain (insure/ANALYSIS, insure/MONITOR)
- Advanced DB2 features in V5R4 are utilized (insure/INDEX, insure/ANALYSIS)
- Four new DRDA providers supported (insure/SECURITY, insure/MONITOR)
HomeRun 6.0 supports iSeries and System i releases V5R2 and higher. For more information or to request a 45-day trial, visit Centerfield Technology
