System i Developer, the consortium of top educators on IBM i development technologies, announced that prominent IBM i enthusiast Ian Jarman will keynote the upcoming RPG & DB2 Summit on Tuesday, October 15, at 12:30 pm at the Sofitel Hotel in Minneapolis. His address completes the session grid for the popular conference, which is taking place October 15-17, 2013.

"There have been two huge events in the world of IBM i in the past couple of years," says Jon Paris, partner at System i Developer. "First Watson soundly defeated the best human Jeopardy! players in the world, then this year we all celebrated the 25th anniversary of the birth of the AS/400. So what do these two events have in common besides the IBM Power platform? Ian Jarman!"

As Keynote speaker, Jarman will share some of the real stories behind the creation of the 25 vignettes that highlighted the IBM i's 25th anniversary celebrations as well as little-known facts about the system. He will also offer his unique insights into how the past informs the future of IBM i by connecting 25 years of architectural decisions to the future of computing.

"Ian has a brilliant, creative mind that can turn complex concepts into memorable bits of information," says Susan Gantner, partner at System i Developer. "He was personally responsible for many of the 25th anniversary vignettes that so cleverly communicate why the i is so versatile, so resilient and so future-proof. We expect Ian's Keynote to uncover new i Advocate ideas that IBM i professionals can take away and use within their own organizations to communicate the IBM i's strengths to management," says Gantner.

The RPG & DB2 Summit's i Advocate program was initiated in 2012 to arm attendees with the skills, information and confidence to advocate for IBM i — and their own careers — within their own shops.

The i Advocate program includes two components. The first is interactive skills training at each RPG & DB2 Summit via a main tent session developed by IBM's Mike Cain. The i Advocate Tutorial and Discussion focuses on exploring techniques to 1) articulate the IBM i message and 2) get into the position to influence decision makers within our organizations. It is scheduled for Wednesday, October 16 at 4:45.

The second component is an online repository of compelling data and presentation materials that support how IBM i — coupled with modern skills — can achieve an organization's business goals more efficiently and cost-effectively than other solutions. The repository is open to everyone and resides at SystemiDeveloper.com/iAdvocate.html.
