Lawson Software has announced that Lawson 9 enterprise applications are now available in a 64-bit version for the IBM AIX operating system. This will allow Lawson enterprise applications to be deployed on the IBM System p POWER platform running IBM AIX in 64-bit mode.

Lawson 9 technology is a leading service-oriented architecture (SOA)-based business process platform for Lawson's enterprise applications. Lawson 9 offers a high-performance, standards-based technology solution that delivers formidable security, scalability, and versatility, the company says. The system also offers a lower total cost of ownership and is designed to help provide greater, more rapid return on investment, the company says.

"Building on our strategic relationship with IBM, Lawson customers of all sizes will now be able to take full advantage of the 64-bit IBM POWER Architecture on System p with its improved energy management capabilities," said Guenther Tolkmit, senior vice president, product development, Lawson Software. "Lawson's open architecture enables our customers to leverage 64-bit platforms quickly, to give our customers a more versatile, easy-to-use solution to their business needs."

Renowned for their computing power, IBM System p servers running AIX support user needs across a broad range of applications, including transaction processing, Web publishing, data mining, systems management, and others. The IBM System p is IBM's current UNIX-based server product line.

"IBM welcomes the announcement of the exploitation of AIX features by Lawson," said Scott K. Handy, vice president, worldwide marketing and strategy, IBM Power Systems. "By moving to a full 64-bit implementation, Lawson customers will be able to get the full benefit of the performance, availability, and energy savings offered by AIX on IBM System p. The significant investment in the AIX platform represented by this announcement underscores the strength of the relationship between Lawson and IBM."
