Data Systems International, Inc. (DSI) has added embedded voice functionality to its acclaimed dcLINK software to enable hands-free data collection.

dcLINK VOICEActivator enables users to interact with dcLINK verbally using a standard, voice-enabled headset and microphone, leaving their hands and eyes free to perform tasks. Embedded voice functionality gives dcLINK clients greater flexibility to use the most appropriate data collection method—bar code, RFID, and voice—for their business needs without installing additional applications.

"With embedded voice functionality, dcLINK is now the first automated data collection software to seamlessly incorporate bar code, RFID, and voice inputs. dcLINK VOICEActivator allows warehouse processes, such as picking, to be voice-enabled when our clients require hands-free, eyes-free interaction with dcLINK to enhance user productivity or safety," said John Adams, DSI's chief technology officer.

dcLINK's voice functionality operates on voice-enabled data collection hardware from leading manufacturers. It supports speech-to-text (STT) and text-to-speech (TTS) and is configurable at the device level. dcLINK VOICEActivator will be available as an add-in component for dcLINK 4.2.4 in the first quarter of 2008, and for dcLINK 5.02 in the second quarter.

DSI is demonstrating dcLINK VOICEActivator at Oracle OpenWorld, Booth #1714, through Nov. 15.
