New Generation Software, Inc. (NGS) has announced a Query/400 API that allows System i customers and ISVs to run and enhance queries developed with IBM Query/400 with its NGS-IQ business intelligence software.
This enables users to send Query/400 output to Web-based business performance dashboards, multi-dimensional OLAP models, Adobe Acrobat PDF files, Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, Access tables, HTML, XML, CSV, TXT, and other popular formats. Authorized users also gain the ability to use NGS-IQ's integrated e-mail and FTP functions to distribute this output (i.e. PDF) where needed.
This API allows customers and ISVs to leverage their past development efforts and the database knowledge embedded in their existing queries immediately, and then take advantage of the additional features of the NGS-IQ solution over time, as their schedule permits. For companies with SOX, HIPAA, PCI, or other compliance concerns, NGS' security management system, known as IQ SeQure, can also be used to provide additional control over the authority users have to data retrieved by Query/400 queries run through the API.

NGS has designed the software to work with i5/OS V5R1 and higher so customers and ISVs do not need to wait to upgrade their environment before moving ahead with their reporting and business intelligence project. Customers will also appreciate that they can run an entire series of IBM Query/400 queries in a specified order before invoking the output enhancement functions.
