NGS-IQ is the only BI, and first non-ERP solution to earn IBM's Solution Edition support.
IBM has added the NGS-IQ enterprise reporting and business intelligence (BI) solution from New Generation Software, Inc. (NGS) to its IBM i Solution Edition marketing program, NGS announced today. The IBM i Solution Edition program enable customers to acquire a new POWER7 server at a significantly reduced price when they pair that acquisition with an investment in an IBM certified, third-party ISV solution that will run on that server.
NGS-IQ is an intriguing addition to the IBM program as it is the only BI, and first non-ERP solution to receive IBM’s support. It’s inclusion gives customers who are running custom business applications or applications from ISV’s who are not in the IBM Solution Edition program with a way to obtain a new POWER7 server and comprehensive BI capabilities at a price point previously only available to companies prepared to make much larger ERP upgrade or replacement investments. It also presents companies interested in an IBM POWER7 BI appliance with a very compelling alternative to competing BI appliances that only run in UNIX, Linux, and Windows environments.
“We are thrilled that IBM’s POWER Systems marketing team is demonstrating their faith in NGS by selecting us as a partner in this critical IBM i marketing program," said Bernard Gough, NGS president and CEO. "Solutions are why people buy IBM POWER and IBM i. IBM is investing heavily in BI technology and helping people understand its potential through programs like the recent Watson campaign. It’s the perfect time for IBM and NGS to come together to make BI for IBM i on IBM POWER7 more affordable than ever,” he said.
The NGS-IQ solution is modular and spans ad hoc query; production and Web reporting; online analytical processing (OLAP); business performance dashboards; summary to detail drill down; native access to DB2 on i; remote real-time access to SQLServer, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and other data sources; output distribution via email and FTP; meta-data; change management tools; auditing; and security. NGS also offers packaged analytical templates for customer, sales, inventory, financial reporting, and healthcare. NGS-IQ’s Web reporting and dashboard development features are also used by companies to quickly modernize legacy reports and bring actionable information to secure Web pages and SmartPhones. Customers may license the solution as a complete, integrated suite or by module to address specific needs.
NGS is attractive to IBM customers who recognize that the scalability, performance, integrated DB2 database, and now reduced cost of a POWER7 server presents an opportunity to manage BI from IBM i rather than transfer data to a separate server and database optimized for Windows or some other operating system.
There are currently three IBM POWER7 server configurations available at the reduced Solution Edition prices. The entry-level system is a model 720 Express with four processors and a CPW rating of 23,800. For this P5 model, IBM waives the processor activation charge for the first three processors, reduces the per user entitlement charge for the operating system from $250 to $70, and includes an unlimited license of IBM i Access which normally costs $2,750 (U.S.). IBM also includes one no-charge service voucher. A customer supporting 25 or more IBM i users can quickly recoup the $6,500 minimum NGS-IQ software, services, and/or maintenance investment required by IBM.
The mid-tier IBM Solution Edition is a model 720 Express that can be ordered with six or eight processors and a CPW rating of 34,900. IBM activates five processors at no charge, offers a $180 per user savings on IBM i user entitlements, an unlimited user license of IBM i Access, and a service voucher. To qualify for this pricing, a customer must invest a minimum of $25,000 in NGS software, services, and/or maintenance.
The largest IBM Solution Edition is a model 740 with from four to 16 processors and a CPW rating of 46,300. IBM activates half the number of processors ordered at no additional cost, waives the IBM i processor licensing fee, includes an unlimited license of IBM i Access, and a service voucher. Customers ordering the NGS-IQ solution to run on this server must invest a minimum of $60,000 in software, services, and/or maintenance.
Given their performance ratings, memory and disk capacity, and other features, NGS believes these Solution Editions may comfortably run all of a company’s existing business application software and the NGS BI solution, while still providing substantial room for growth.
